Students advised to take part in sports to stay fit

PESHAWAR: Government College, Peshawar, principal Prof Fazle Subhani has asked the students to focus on both studies and sports activities to defeat evils in the society.

He speaking at a ceremony organised here on Saturday for distribution of prizes among the winners of the games held under the aegis of the University of Peshawar for year 2017. He advised the students to take part in different sports activities to remain healthy and keep themselves away from immoral acts.


The educationist underscored the need for holding regular sports tournaments and urged the students to take active part in different games. He said that the Government College Peshawar (GCP) had provided a platform to the students to show their talent both academically and in sports so that they could become better and healthy citizens of the country. Prof Subhani lauded the students for taking active part in various sports activities. He also appreciated coach Yasin Khan and director sports Zafar Iqbal for their dedicated efforts.

Besides giving cash prizes and commendation certificates to players of the college, the principal announced waiving off tuition fee of 20 students who excelled in the games.

GCP grabbed the overall trophy by securing 85 points. GCP’s Faris John was declared best athlete of 2017. He won four gold medals and a bronze by winning first position in 3,000m, 1,500m, 800m and 400m races and recorded 36 individual points.
