QCB to set up schools, colleges, hospital

QUETTA: The Quetta Cantonment Board (QCB) plans to set up separate schools and colleges for boys and girls and a hospital for civilians living in its housing scheme.

The schools would be set up in the first phase and colleges in the second, QCB Chief Executive Imran Gulzar said in a meeting with members of the Quetta Chamber of Small Traders and Industries (QCSTI).

The chamber’s president, Malik Nadeem Kasi, in his welcome address, spoke about the problems the business community and residents of the scheme faced.

Mr Gulzar said the school for boys would begin functioning next month and admissions would begin on April 15. A building in Shahbaz Town has been acquired on rent and the school will be shifted when the new building is constructed.

The school and college for girls would be opened in Jinnah Town where the board had its own land, Mr Gulzar said.

He said the main reasons for taking the step was to provide quality and cheap education in view of the fact that entry into the cantonment area was quite difficult.

The QCB also planned to set up a modern hospital in Jinnah Town, he said.

He also promised to address the issues of drinking water and sanitation.
