Rs 6 b scholarships for girl students of 16 districts

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has launched “Khadam-e-Punjab Zewar-e-Taleem Programme” in 16 districts of South Punjab under which educational scholarships worth Rs6 billion will be distributed every year in girl students and the program will benefit more than 460,000 students. Also, it has been decided to include students of madrassas in the laptop scheme.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed these views at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal while distributing Khidmat card among the girl students. He said the aristocracy enjoyed all facilities but the poor people drastically needed even basic facilities. He said the aristocracy should stop opposition of the programmes aimed at the welfare and development of the common people.

He said in the country established by Quaid-e-Azam, the system based on the injustice and cruelty by the aristocracy would have to be eliminated, otherwise, nobody could stop a revolution. He said the aristocracy provided every possible resource for their children but they criticised the educational scholarships for the poor, and this thinking was regrettable. He said Pakistan was not the country of aristocracy, but it was the country of 20 million people residing in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Balistan and Azad Kashmir.

To make the programme transparent, the girl students will be given scholarships through Khidmat cards. The scholarships is aimed at ensuring school education of girls and is conditional to 80 percent attendance. Through Khidmat cards girl students will be given Rs1,000 scholarship every month.

"I advise the girl students who will get the scholarship to move forward with energy and vigour, and break the status quo to change the destiny of the country. End the culture of plunder and threat, and all girl students should work as a movement and redesign the country as per guidelines and aspiration of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal," the chef minister said. He said if the daughters of the nation would equipment themselves with education, they would not need jewelry of gold and silver.

He said if the criticism regarding the provision of educational and medical aid for the 90 percent population continued, the country would witness such a revolution that would destroy everything. Pakistan was not established for the unjust distribution of resources," he added. If the aristocracy did not change its attitude, the suppressed segments of society would snatch resources from aristocracy, he said.

Shahbaz Sharif said, "Our beloved country was not established for the children of politicians, governors, chief ministers, judges and generals or any other influential groups, but for the common man. On the one hand there are the people who become billionaire for being aristocrat or through gambling, on the other hand, there are great Pakistanis who search for lawful living after offering Fajr prayers but they remain worried about provision of education and medical facilities for their children despite hard work. We have to destroy this economic system and make Pakistan an Islamic and welfare state in true terms where everybody gets equal opportunity through honesty and hard work."
