Hookworm Life Cycle

Hookworms are blood sucking parasites that reside in the small intestine of human beings and cause an infection called helminthiases. Hookworms fall under the class Secernentea and the order Strongylida. An adult hookworm measures up to 11 mm in size. Study shows that A. Ceylanicum is a vital parasite infecting humans in certain parts of the world. The human hookworms include Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus. The hookworm disease has infected approximately 740 million people worldwide. It affects the human lungs, skin and small intestine.

Plasmodium Life Cycle

Plasmodium is a genus of parasitic protozoans that fall under the family Apicomplexa, the class Aconoidasida and the sporozoan subclass Coccidia. Plasmodium is known to infect the red blood cells in mammals like humans, birds, reptiles and so on. P. knowlesi is the species of plasmodium that causes the infectious disease known as Malaria. Malaria occurs when the infected female Anopheles mosquito bites human beings or any other mammal. Some other species of plasmodium known to spread Malaria are P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae, and P. knowlesi. The plasmodium parasite displays a complex life cycle as it uses an insect (mosquito) as a catalyst to carry and transmit the disease.

Chicken Life Cycle

With the ancient, unanswered question of who came first, the chicken or the egg, chicken birds are most widely domesticated birds utilized for their meat and eggs. Chicken falls under the family Phasianidae, the class Aves and the order Galliformes. In appearance a chicken measures upto 70 cm in height, weighs around 2.6 kgs and has a tail with a length of 30 cm. The Red Jungle Fowl is ancestor to all domestic chickens and the domestic chicken is called Gallus Domesticus. A male chicken is called a rooster and a female chicken is called a hen.

Bird Life Cycle

Birds are flying, warm blooded vertebrates that have more than 10,400 species that fall under the class Aves. They have two eyes, a four-chambered heart like human beings and forelimbs modified into feathery wings. Birds use their forelimbs for flying purpose and hind limbs for resting or perching. Birds lay hard shelled eggs that need warm conditions to hatch.

Even with such a large number of species, there are approximately 1000 extinct species of birds acquired from fossils.

Fish Life Cycle

Fishes are cold-blooded vertebrate animals that comprise around 34,400 species found in freshwater and saltwater across the globe. Fish fall under the superclass Agnatha (jawless fish) and phylum Chordata which includes hagfishes, sharks, bony fishes and many more. Except for the fish Opah, all other fishes are cold blooded vertebrates. The characteristics of fish are gill slits on the side, skeletal supporting cord and a tail. The study of fishes is known as ichthyology, which has brought light to the importance of fish in the world’s food supply.

Now let’s look at the life cycle of a fish to better understand them.

Bed Bug Life Cycle

About the size of an apple seed, this flat, reddish-brown and oval shaped pest has been a nuisance to people with unclean mattresses in around the world. Bed bugs are also known as “Bugs without Borders” as they have the ability to survive in any living condition. All they want are humans in close proximity for feeding.

We all have wondered its whereabouts and how to get rid of bed bugs as they feed on our blood in our sleep.

Butterfly Life Cycle

Butterflies are considered to be the prettiest insects and belong to the order Lepidoptera. Lepidoptera is a greek term that defines “scaly wings” of an insect which is true in the case of butterflies. These scaly patterns that are placed on the wings of butterflies in colorful designs, gives every butterfly a distinctive look.

Glossary of Chemistry Term

Glossary of Chemistry

This glossary of chemistry terms is a list of terms and definitions relevant to chemistry, including chemical laws, diagrams and formulae, laboratory tools, glassware, and equipment. Chemistry is a physical science concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions; it features an extensive vocabulary and a significant amount of jargon.

absolute zero
A theoretical condition concerning a system at the lowest limit of the thermodynamic temperature scale, or zero kelvins, at which the system does not emit or absorb energy (i.e. all atoms are at rest). By extrapolating the ideal gas law, the internationally agreed-upon value for absolute zero has been determined as -273.15 °C (−459.67 °F; 0.00 K).
absorbance
The physical or chemical process by which a substance in one state becomes incorporated into and retained by another substance of a different state.
