Lahore International book fair 2017 kicks off at Expo Centre

Lahore: The largest book fair of the country “Lahore International Book Fair-2017” featuring almost 275 local as well as foreign publishers started at Expo Center here on Thursday.

The 5-day book fair, along with the free entry during all days of the event, attracted large number of book lovers on the first day.

The book fair was inaugurated by Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani who also visited various stalls.  

The minister appreciated the organizers of the book fair, saying that such events played a vital role in promoting the habit of book reading among the public.

He praised the presence of young generation at the venue. He said books promoted healthy social behavior in society by sensitizing the readers regarding the positive regions of life. Almost all the participating publishers are offering special discount on books ranging from 20% to 50% and even more discount in some cases. The open venue offers thousands of books on a large number of topics under one roof.

The 31st Lahore International Book Fair 2017 has been arranged by the Lahore International Book Fair (LIBF) Trust in association along with the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association.  LIBF Trust administrator Saleem Malik said the LIBF book fair was an annual event which had been promoting a very positive activity over the years.

Saleem Malik said, organized in February each year, the LIBF book fair was signal of spring and suggested that the Punjab government could own this book fair as part of its yearly spring festival.

“The government can at least provide the site on subsidized rates,” he said.

The book fair will continue till February 6th, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
