Provincial Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that girls have been provided equal opportunities of studies in higher education institutions; adding that they should take maximum benefit of these opportunities, so that the potential of half of the population could be fully exploited for the collective wellbeing of the society.
He said this, while addressing the second convocation of four year program of Bachelor of Science (BS) of 2011-2015 session of the Government Postgraduate Islamia College for Women, Cooper Road, Lahore on Saturday.
Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr. Muhammad Nizamuddin, Director Public Instructions (Colleges) Punjab Chaudhry Jahangir Ahmad, Director (Colleges) Lahore Division Zafar Inayat Anjum, besides a large number of students, attended the ceremony.
During the convocation, degrees were awarded to 472 students; while 20 students were conferred with gold medals in recognition of their exemplary performance.
In his address, Raza Gillani asked the students to take maximum benefit of the educational facilities and strive for excellence in their respective fields. Terming the students as biggest potential of the country, he said that educational reforms program is aimed to turn this potential as best professional organ of the society, which could lead Pakistan with vigor and excellence. Education empowers the human beings, while educated women are capable of bringing vital socio-economic changes at the grassroots. Girls’ education is more important as they are beneficial partners of development, he added and advised the students to serve their country dedicatedly as Pakistan is a symbol of prestige and honor for all of us.
The minister told that sufficient funds would be provided for bringing further improvement in public sector colleges in the next budget, and said that development schemes have been priorities so that the college education could be elevated according to international educational standards. He maintained the students should not be afraid of difficulties in their practical life as there is no shortcut to success. The knowledge economy of the 21st century requires hard work and consistent struggle for improvement; while education plays the pivotal role of developing youth as future leaders. In order to achieve the goal of prosperity, a well-educated and highly skilled workforce is necessary. Meanwhile, knowledge has become an important factor for achieving economic development agenda.
