LAHORE: Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholars on Thursday paid rich tribute to educational programmes of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in a function held at the beginning of the forth phase of laptop distribution at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, and said that due to these programmes, children belonging to poor families were also getting higher education opportunities.
Zulaikha Malik, a PEEF scholar studying at FC College Lahore, while addressing the function, said that she belonged to a poor family of Qila Gujar Singh and opened her eyes as an orphan.
She said that difficulties of her widowed mother were before her. She said that the only way to reduce the difficulties of her family was to get education, and she passed her matriculation examination in 2009 and secured 80 percent marks and also obtained 80 percent marks in FSc, got admission in BSc (Hons) in biotechnology at the Government College University and studied for four years through the educational fund of the institution.
During this period, she had a problem of tumour in her jaw, its treatment was very costly and it was difficult for her to undergo treatment and bear educational expenditure. She came to know that poor people were treated freely at Nawaz Sharif Hospital, so she underwent treatment at the hospital. She said that her dream of higher education was being materialised through the Educational Endowment Fund of the Punjab government, and due to the fund, she was doing her MPhil at a prestigious educational institution - FC College. She said that like other educational programmes of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Laptop Distribution Programme was also excellent, adding that all such programmes were an open proof of the chief minister's deep affiliation with the youth.
Zulaikha Malik said that the laptop distribution scheme was playing an important role in equipping the youth with modern knowledge. She said that laptop and other educational programmes could become successful only when "we will make a resolve to continue to play our role in the journey of development of the country and put it on the road to progress and prosperity".
PEEF scholar Muhammad Haseeb of Kasur, studying at LUMS, while speaking on this occasion said that a common child like him was studying in an institution like LUMS due to the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, and like him, a number of other children were studying in local and foreign educational institutions, all because of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
He said that he could not have even thought about studying at LUMS but his dream had been materialised due to the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. He said that he passed his matric examination from a local school of Kasur, securing 93 percent marks, and got admission in FSc on 100 percent scholarship at a local college and obtained 91 percent marks.
He said he was waiting for another scholarship to get admission to a university for higher education, which was provided by the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, and now he was studying at LUMS.
