Higher Education Minister for Punjab, Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that Rs. 2.28 billion has been allocated for the foreign languages program.
About 500 students will be sent abroad for learning different languages including Chinese and Turkish under this program, according to the minister.
Language Experts
He added that, these students will become a part of a panel of language experts for assisting the government with CPEC related investments.
Several countries have expressed their willingness to join the CPEC mega project and invest in Pakistan.
Mr. Gillani shared this information while addressing a ceremony at 18-H Model Town, Lahore. The event was held for students going to China for learning the Chinese. Punjab government spokesman Muhammad Ahmad Khan and Consul General of China Long Dingbing were also present at the event.
2 Year Program
They would be staying in the country for 2 years under the foreign language program. The minister said that institutional reforms have been put into place and a merit based program has been introduced to help deserving students.
He said, “We don’t want our students ending up as educated but jobless individuals.”
NUML’s Confucius Institute Ranked Highest in The World
Learning Chinese in Pakistan isn’t a bad choice either. National University of Modern Languages’ Confucius institute was ranked as best in the world. The announcement was made by the newly appointed Chinese Cultural Counsellor You Yi. He said,
It is providing training facilities not only to students but also to teachers in Chinese language proficiency by offering a galaxy of courses from basic business level to PhD level using multimedia, internet and latest techniques added with high level of Trained Chinese Instructors and Pakistani Teachers.
The institute was established back in 2005 to foster Pak-China friendship.
