Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is going to set up Urdu learning centre in China. This was agreed upon during a visit of the five-member academic delegation of Yunnan Open University of China (YOUC) led by Vice President Prof Luo JI on Tuesday to the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). The delegation held a meeting with the AIOU team of scholars and intellectuals led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui.
Both the sides agreed to set a future road-map to develop bilateral cooperation in order to give educational response to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEE).
The YOUC delegation agreed to continue cooperative partnership to promote the concept of China-Pakistan educational corridor, by undertaking joint ventures in different educational sector. They agreed for setting up Chinese and the Urdu learning Centers at their respective institutions.
The Yunnan University’s Vice President Prof. Luo JI during his meeting with the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui showed keen interest in setting up Chinese Language and Culture Center at AIOU as well as starting joint academic programs particularly in the field of Printing technology and teachers’ training.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui offered that the AIOU could establish an Urdu learning Center in YOUC. The proposal was responded positively by the Chinese side, hoping that it will facilitate the Chinese manpower to have better interaction with their Pakistani counterparts in executing the CPEC.
Both sides also agreed for exchange of students and the Faculty members to learn from each others. Modus operandi to this effect will be finalized soon. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui briefed the visiting delegation about the University’s rich potential and capacity to push forward the idea of educational corridor supporting the CPEC. He underlined the importance of cooperative partnership between the two educational institutions in the context of CPEC.
During the meeting, Registrar AIOU Dr. Muhammad Naeem Qureshi and Incharge University’s International office Dr. Zahid Majeed spoke about the way forward and the mechanism of bilateral cooperation between the two institutions. It may be pointed out that AIOU and YOUC had signed agreement of bilateral cooperation last year that paved the way of developing printing technology courses and setting up Chinese language center. The Chinese delegation including Li Yuekun, Director teaching affairs office and Li Yimin, Director of Lab-training Center YOUC took round of various departments of the University including the Central Library, Printing and Publication Unit and the Mailing section.
