LAHORE: The Government College University (GCU) syndicate on Monday approved the appointment of 17 senior faculty members, including four professors and five distinguished professors.
The syndicate presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah also sanctioned a new academic programme, BA (Hons) in Sociology.
The distinguished professors are playwright Dr Mirza Ather Baig, Dr Saadat Saeed, Dr Aminul Haq Khan, Dr Zaheeruddin Khan and Muhammad Sharif Mughal in zoology.
The syndicate also approved selection of renowned economist Prof Dr Anjum Nasim on Dr Mehboobul Haq Chair by the search committee. The chair was lying vacant since 2006.
It also revived the statutory promotions of faculty members on seniority basis. The syndicate also approved promotion of nine lecturers to assistant professors. It recommended the academic council approve institution of three medals -- Chaudhry Amir Din Medal for first position in BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif Medal for the Best Declamation Speaker and Thespian Medal for outstanding performance in dramatics.
Also at GCU, an exhibition, titled Unveiling Her, in connection with the women’s day was held on Monday. As many as 36 paintings, posters, sketches and photographs were displayed by students of the National College of Arts, Beaconhouse National University, Kinnaird College and GCU.
