NOWSHERA: Speakers at a seminar on Saturday said that education was the only way to steer the country out of the prevailing mess.
They were speaking at the seminar organised by the district government in collaboration with the Pakistan International Human Rights.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sitara Ayaz said lack of education was breeding militancy.
She said that the war on terror was the result of the flawed policies of the former military dictator General (R) Pervez Musharraf. “This war has been thrust on us,” she remarked.
The minister said the present government had rendered unprecedented sacrifices to restore peace. She said that a bunch of misguided people were fanning militancy and ignoring the teachings of Islam.
Dr Raj Wali Khattak, chairman of the Pashto Academy, University of Peshawar, said that education was the only solution to bring an end to militancy and restore lasting peace in the region.
Prof Yar Mohammad Maghmoom of the Edwardes College shed light on the philosophy of freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan about non-violence.
He said that the history of the Pakhtun nation spanning thousands of years resembled the teachings of Islam and this was the reason that the entire Pakhtun nation embraced Islam.
