JAMRUD, 13 February: The students of Khyber Agency on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the suspension of ‘political agent scholarship’ and demanded of the federal government to release political scholarship for the students of the tribal region.
Hundreds of students participated in the protest and blocked the Pak-Afghan highway for all kind of traffic causing severe difficulties to local people in transportation.
The protesting students chanted slogans in favor of their demands and demanded of the federal government to resume the ‘political agent scholarship’ for the Fata students as poor students bear their education expenses on these scholarship.
The protesters claimed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor has announced to resume the political agent scholarship for Fata students. The students said the scholarship has been resumed in Mohmand, Kurram, Orakzai and other tribal agencies, while students of Khyber Agency are deprived of it.
While talking to TNN a protesting student Ijaz said the university students from FATA were receiving annual scholarship of Rs6,000 per year, while the college students were getting Rs5,000 per year. He said the scholarship has been stopped now due to which the students are facing many difficulties in carrying on their studies. “We demand the governor and political agent to resume this scholarship. The students will start protests if this demand was not fulfilled,” he said.
