Karachi: On Monday, the Sindh cabinet has decided to rename Altaf Hussain University as Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah University.
This decision was taken during a cabinet meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the Sindh Secretariat.
The recent development comes after anti-Pakistan remarks of Altaf Hussain.
The chief minister while addressing the cabinet said that:
“There is no need to start a university after Altaf Hussain who works in the hands of anti-Pakistan elements to destabilize the state.”
After the approval of cabinet, this change will be made in “Altaf Hussain University Act 2014”.
Earlier, the Sindh Sindh Assembly had collectively passed private bills to establish Altaf Hussain universities in Karachi as well as in Hyderabad.
The bill was moved by MQM.
In January 2015, the Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and chiefof Bahria Town Malik Riaz performed the groundbreaking of Altaf Hussain University (AHU), just a few kms away in the hilly Ganjo Takkar area.
The chief of MQM Altaf Hussain, in his telephonic address from London, congratulated the people of Hyderabad and also thanked Malik Riaz and Chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari for their support.
For this purpose, a plot of 80 acres was purchased at the cost of almost Rs380 million from the Hyderabad Development Authority for the establishment of university, which, after its completion in two years, was said to provide education in business studies, pharmacy, information technology, mass communication as well as the other subjects of social sciences.
