Difference Between Natural and Whole numbers

The key difference between natural number and whole number is the presence of value ‘0’ in whole numbers. A number is an arithmetic value which is used to represent a particular quantity. The different types of numbers are classified based on their characteristic properties.

Here we discuss the difference between natural and whole numbers: 

Natural Numbers: 

  • Natural numbers are defined as the basic counting numbers. The natural number in set notation is {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, …..}
  • Natural Numbers are represented using the letter “N”
  • Counting number starts from 1
  • We can say that all the natural numbers are considered as whole numbers

Whole Numbers

  • Whole numbers are defined as the set of natural numbers, and it started with zero. The whole numbers in set notation is {0,1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ….}
  • Whole Numbers are represented using the letter “W”.
  • Counting number starts from 0
  • We can say that all the whole numbers are not considered as natural numbers
