Islamabad: While inaugurating a two-day education expo at the Pakistan-China Friendship Centre here on Tuesday, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb praised the Jang Media Group for organising the event to the benefit of local residents, especially youth.
“I congratulate the Jang Group for bringing the country’s leading educational institutions under one roof and thus, providing the residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas from students to parents to teachers with access to a wide range of information on education and career development,” she said.
The minister said the government was striving to develop the country in line with the prime minister’s vision of education and professional development and that the private sector’s contributions in this respect were commendable.
“The day is not far when we will emerge as an educated, healthy nation due to the government’s vibrant policies,” she said.The minister said the government was investing in human resource development as it was vital for the success of mega projects, including the multibillion dollars China-Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative.
She said several projects had been launched under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme for the education, skill enhancement and professional development of the youths.Marriyum Aurangzeb said the youth programme offered many employments, skill development and training schemes and thus, giving youth the hope, confidence, encouragement and opportunities for own development.
She said the government was working on a plan for the youths’ career development to help students meet market demands on graduation.The minister said quality education was the main component of the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme, which had a special emphasis on the teachers’ training.
She said the government had released a supplementary grant of Rs3 billion for the provision of modern facilities to all public sector schools in Islamabad before the start of the next academic year to ensure admission of all children of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said under the reforms programme, Montessori classes had been launched at and buses had been provided to Islamabad’s government-run educational institutions.
She also said the provincial governments were giving special attention to the cause of education and healthcare and that the Punjab Textbook Board had digitalised course books in order to ensure the people’s easy access to them.
Earlier, the minister said the motive of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf was to fan anarchy in the country by disseminating baseless and wrong information.
Reacting to what she called ‘irresponsible’ tweets of PTI leaders Shireen Mazari and Naeemul Haque over newsleak issue, she said Imran Khan’s party was in the habit of making baseless allegations against others.
“The PTI’s politics is meant to pit national institutions against each other. It (PTI) should avoid issuing statements on the basis of wrong information and without investigation,” she said.
Meanwhile, the ‘The News Education Expo’ attracted crowds of people, mostly youth, who went to the stalls of the country’s leading colleges and universities for educational and career guidance and on-spot registrations for admission.
According to organisers, the event was organised to help students directly interact with educational institutions and educationists to discuss their educational and career issues for guidance and solution.They said the expo would further the cause of education in the country.
